| ChangeMe |
| › |
I have a very old keyboard that cannot be programmed with the latest ChangeMe. |
| |
First firmware that is fully supported in ChangeMe is version 03.02.00 and was introduced somewhere at the end of May 2002.
All earlier versions of firmware are suggested to be programmed with
MIDWIN 3.0.9. software. Its installation can be downloaded from our web
page: MIDWIN_309rm.zip
Notes:
| · |
MIDWIN works on Windows 2000, NT and 98 operating systems. Windows 7, Vista and XP are not supported. |
|
| · |
Firmware version 03.00.18
(released end of February 2001) also works with ChangeMe, but since its
correct behaviour is dependant also on operating system it is suggested
to use MIDWIN 3.0.9. All earlier versions of firmware MUST be
programmed using MIDWIN and cannot be programmed on Windows 7, Vista or
XP. |

Load content from keyboard menu is disabled |
| |
The Load content from keyboard menu can be enabled by pressing Control+Backspace keys in main ChangeMe window.
Please note: The latest keyboards support some additional features that
cannot be loaded from keyboard. The Load content is not supported for
those keyboards. That is the reason why the menu is disabled. |

| Installation |

Unattended ChangeMe deployment |
| |
To perform a silent installation,
you need an InstallShield "answer file", customarily named setup.iss.
You have to create one using the graphical installer itself.
Here is how it works. Run the installer with the /r ("record") switch.
Proceed through the dialogs and complete the installation. This will
create a setup.iss file and place it in the C:\WINDOWS directory. This
file will include all of your responses to the InstallShield dialogs,
allowing you to perform unattended installations as if you were giving
the same answers again. Simply copy the setup.iss file to the same
directory where the installer executable is.
Once you have a setup.iss file in the same directory as the installer
executable, run the installer with the /s ("silent") option. This will
perform an unattended installation.

ChangeMe does not recognize my PS/2 keyboard connected to a laptop. |
| |
A laptop has internal keyboard,
which is connected to a PS/2 port. It is has another PS/2 connector,
where an external keyboard can be connected. Those 2 keyboards/ports
are connected in parallel. So when the ChangeMe software sends a
command to our keyboard, also the internal keyboard gets this command
and it replies with "command unknown", because we use some non standard
PS/2 commands in order to program our keyboards. ChangeMe cannot
communicate with our keyboard, because the communication is interrupted
by the internal keyboard.
The keyboard should be programmed on a desktop computer using ChangeMe
and then it can be used on every computer including a laptop.

I am using a KVM switch. |
| |
There could be some issue
programming a keyboard through a KVM switch. Some non standard commands
are used to communicate over PS/2 and those commands are not correctly
transferred by KVM switch.
It is advised to program a keyboard on computer where it is connected
directly to a PS/2 port of computer and then it can be used through a
KVM switch. |

I am using a PS/2 to USB (USB to PS/2) adapter/converter. |
| |
The keyboard should be connected
to the PS/2 port of your computer without any adapter in order to be
able to communicate with ChangeMe. That is because we use some non
standard commands to communicate with the keyboard through PS/2 and
they are not converted correctly by PS/2 to USB converter.
Then it can be used with an adapter without a problem.
